We Believe:
* That the Bible is God’s Word & our ultimate authority
* That the One true God exists in the persons of The Father, The Son and The Spirit
* That mankind is fallen and lost without Christ
*That Jesus lived a perfect life and died for us and that He rose again
* That we are saved from our sin by faith alone in Christ alone
* That we should live for God by faith out of gratitude
* That Jesus is coming again for those who know Him
* That there is an afterlife for each of us either in heaven with Jesus or in hell without Him
* That the church belongs to Christ and exists for His mission to reach the world

FBC (Faith Baptist Church), Great Village is insome ways quite old and in other ways really new. We are constantly seeing new people becoming part of our church family and that makes us new. We are seeing God do some really amazing changes in our lives in these present days and that also makes us new. Not only that but we have a lot of young families involved, with lots of kids. So that makes us really new too!
On the other hand, there have been Christians meeting at our location and getting together to serve Jesus here in this area since the 1850's. We also hold fast to the historic teachings of the Christian faith as it was presented by the apostles of Jesus Himself. So, that makes us as old as the New Testament!
A lot has changed over the years for sure. In its early days in Great Village, the Baptist church took root and grew but by the mid 1900's the church was in serious decline. A lack of leadership and participation seemed to stall the work.
Then, in 1978 Ed Henderson moved into the area along with his wife Linda and their two children. Though there was very little financial support, he felt called of God to do an evangelistic work in the area and offered to pastor the church if they too would take this step of faith. This marked a clear turning point in the trend as God began a ‘new work’ as it were. Through much personal effort, a good number of people, mostly younger, came to faith in Christ and Ed was wise to involve them right away in church life and ministry. The church grew in that time to about 60 people involved on a regular basis. Ed Henderson pastored Faith Baptist Church from 1978 until 1988.
When Pastor Ed informed the church at that time that he felt God was calling him elsewhere, he recommended the church call one of the young men who had come to Christ during his ministry and had since gone to Bible College and was about to graduate. The church prayerfully followed his advise and Steve Adams assumed the responsibilities as pastor of the church in July of 1988. The church has continued to grow and Steve continues to serve as lead pastor of FBC today.
In 1994, the congregation voted to join with the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada (FBCC), affectionately known simply as ‘The Fellowship’, and has enjoyed it’s association with that greater body of Christians since.
In October of 2000, the church finished construction of a large addition tripling the buildings capacity. This includes a 3000 square foot auditorium with a full multimedia package. Since that time the original building has been completely renovated resulting in about 9000 square feet of useable space. And it is used, not just on Sundays but throughout the week, not just for church programs and ministries, but numerous community groups enjoy using the facilities free of charge.
Since 2000 we have also added a number of other paid staff to the leadership team and a number of volunteer staff have also been raised up.
The life and ministry of FBC has changed dramatically over the past couple of decades though we hasten to add that our mandate has not changed, nor has our position on the Scriptures as God’s inspired Word and the essentials of the faith taught in its pages.
We are now a contemporary congregation constantly employing new ways and methods to stay current and connected to our culture while remaining true to the message that never changes – “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.” We ‘do church’ in a way that relates to today’s culture while at the same time seeking to recapture that same sense of community and worship that was experienced in the early New Testament church. This approach has produced great results and we have seen Christ grow His church and we are convinced that the best is yet to come.
