Dear Pastors, Missionaries, Chaplains and Friends,
Steve here…A couple months ago we had the joy of sending a cheque for $8000 to each of our nine new church plants (2012) in Canada and Colombia on behalf of our donors.
Project 2012, “Kick Start 2: On the Road Again” is nearing the end of its run. Together we have sought to raise funding for eight church plants in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia and one in La Ceja, Colombia. We are nearing the $100,000 mark of our $250,000 goal. We have also learned that many of these new plants have also received direct support from many of our Fellowship churches and friends. Thank you for giving to this noble cause…the planting of new churches. This must remain the DNA of our movement in the years ahead. I commend our Regional leaders and many pastors who have been “infected by the virus”.
I thought I’d give you a brief update on a couple of these new Project “Kick Start” church plants:
La Ceja, Colombia
Carlos and Cristina, of Llano Grande (Baptist) Church are “mothering” the new work, along with a couple who will be part of the church plant in La Ceja. This town and region take in about 100,000 people and has been historically a very strong Catholic centre. Very few evangelical churches exist and all are not doctrinally solid. Pastor Carlos mentors the church planting couple,Cesar and Yuly, who presently serve as his youth pastor. About 40 people who attend the mother church live in or close to La Ceja. Currently, a small group is meeting in La Ceja in preparation for the church being planted. Project funds will go towards the home and salary (over three years) of our church planter. Our Fellowship has helped support several of our Colombian church plants in the past. After three years these plants have generally become self-sustaining.
Please pray about giving to Project 2012 and help launch this church plant in La Ceja, Colombia. I visited the town in February 2012 and have a brief (less than 2 minutes) video below (click image to view on the internet).
St. Léonard, Quebec
Pastor René and Sharon Frey know about church planting. After pastoring our Rosemont Church for 34 years, and planting three daughter churches, they are leaving Rosemont to plant a church in St. Léonard, a borough in Montreal, with 75,000, many of whom are of Italian descent. There are very few evangelical churches in this area. René rejoices that a church planter in training, Benoît Constant(a Master of Divinity student), will begin with Pastor René in September 2013. Currently, three cell groups are meeting in St. Léonard and gather together once a month. René and Benoît hope to set up a mutli-ethnic congregation similar to our Rosemont Church. Please pray about giving to Project 2012—Kick Start 2 and support this new church plant in Montreal, QC.
