A Word from Steve Jones: A Story and a Prayer for the Unborn
Dear pastors, missionaries, chaplains and friends,
Steve here… Psalm 27 is a favorite! “The Lord is my light” (vs 1). The Lord removes darkness, deception and makes all things visible. He sees everything as they really are. The tragedy today is that western culture is afraid of the light and comfortable with darkness. A cursory view of current movies, television and online shows prove this reality.
However, light is not a weak image, it is a very powerful image. You cannot devalue what is true even if it is constantly mocked and maligned as irrelevant or medieval by media elites.
For 28 years our nation has had no law to protect the unborn. A travesty.
In verse 7 the Psalmist prays: “Hear me as I pray, O Lord.” And goes on to say that even if “my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close” (vs 10). Although my parents forsake me, my God will not.
A STORY ABOUT LIFE
I recently heard this story from a trusted friend:
A young woman was pregnant and living in Atlanta, Georgia. She went to a doctor to sign a necessary document to receive an abortion. The doctor had recently come to faith in Christ and had a new-found conviction to talk to her about an alternative. He spoke to her about adoption, and she agreed. A baby boy was born. But he grew up in a troubled neighbourhood, got in trouble, and went to prison. He received Christ as hisSaviour during his time in prison. Soon after leaving jail he started attending a church. One Sunday he was standing in a baptismal tank telling his testimony to the church family. A church elder was sitting in the congregation. He was a doctor. It dawned on him that he was the doctor who was instrumental in his mother’s decision not to abort him. He stood up, went forward, got into the baptismal tank, identified himself as the doctor in this ex-con’s story and had the joy of participating in this young man’s baptism.
ADVOCATE for the UNBORN
We are occasionally reminded to pray and advocate for the unborn. With spring’s arrival, and the reminder of new birth all around us, I hope you’ll advocate for the unborn in Canada. Why not plan to do something in the next few weeks. The silent majority needs to speak up. The truth needs to see the light of day amid the cultural darkness on this particular issue. There are lots of resources online to help you speak up in a respectful and meaningful way. A great place to look is the website for the Canadian Association of Pregnancy Support Services atwww.capss.com whose Chair of the Board is our own Pastor Doug Blair at Bluewater Baptist Church in Sarnia, ON.
Will Heaven be Populated by the Unborn?
I came across this brief article by Dr. Albert Mohler Jr. and Daniel Akin a few years back. It’s entitled “Why I believe Children who Die go to Heaven.” You may not agree with all of the article, but I hope it is a support to you as we minister to young parents who have lost a child.
Have a blessed week,
