Dear Pastors, Missionaries, Chaplains and Friends,
Steve here…Most everyone likes a party…eh?! I wanted to let you see a few photos from a recent “party” I enjoyed in Montreal, QC.
Our Quebec (AÉBÉQ) Region celebrated its 40th Anniversary on Friday, October 5th, at a packed out banquet of 1000 people. It was a joy to see our French brethren honour our pioneer missionary church planters during the evening. These faithful servants started our first churches in tough places in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Some of them did jail time for preaching the gospel on street corners—yes, this was in Canada!
It was a joy to see the next cohort of French workers receive their theological degree from SEMBEQ. The extra joy was to witness them receive their degree from their personal mentor/coach!
The evening was topped off with a special offering ($35,000 received) for a church health project along with a moving message from Dr. Don Carson speaking “en français”!
This was a party to remember; to rejoice in God’s faithfulness and goodness.
The next day I was on the road visiting some churches. I dropped in to see Pastor Daniel Gagne in St. Constant, a recent church plant, with the church family now adding a significant addition to its building. They’re doing most of the work themselves and could use some help/support if you’re interested.
I stopped by the new SEMBEQ/Regional office facility and was impressed by the significant steps forward they have taken in the renovation of this building since I was last there in June. This new Ministry Center should be complete by early 2013. A great big “thank you” to many of you have financially supported this project. They still need a bit more support to complete the job.
I Saturday evening was spent at another new church plant, the Oasis Church in St. Eustache. Pastor Ken Taylor is leading this new work, the daughter of our Terrebonne-Mascouche church with Pastor Louis Bourque. We celebrated the opening of their church building which we pray will be a tool to extend God’s grace on the north shore of Montreal.
I closed off my “Thanksgiving weekend” by visiting Snowdon Baptist Church, one of our English-speaking churches in Montreal. This church knows how to sing…always a joy to visit them. Pray for Snowdon as they continue their search for a lead pastor.
Fellowship 48 is COMING!
But, there is another PARTY coming. Our National Convention will soon arrive. I hope you’re planning to attend on November 5-7, 2012 in Niagara Falls. Registration is way up for Fellowship 48. Fellowship Services Director, Rob Cole, tells me it’s the largest he’s seen since he started at the Fellowship. Many are coming to hear the Scazzeros and be challenged. We’ll be unveiling Fellowship International’s new directional document, introduce our newest missionary appointees, praise and pray together (special prayer meeting on Tuesday night), hear news from our regions, French and chaplaincy ministries, brainstorm together on our national vision and laugh together with Christian humourist, Phil Callaway at our Wednesday night banquet. Yes…it’s going to be a PARTY at the Falls! There is still time to join the Fellowship family on November 5-7, 2012.
Have a blessed week.
Our Fellowship Theme Verse for 2012:
“So I pray that God, who gives you hope, will keep you happy and full of peace as you believe in him. May you overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NLT)
