A Word From Steve Jones

![]() Dear Pastors, Missionaries, Chaplains and Friends, Steve here…A couple months ago we had the joy of sending a cheque for $8000 to each of our nine new church plants (2012) in Canada and Colombia on behalf of our donors. Project 2012, “Kick Start 2: On the Road Again” is nearing the end of its run. Together we have sought to raise funding for eight church plants in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia and one in La Ceja, Colombia. We are nearing the $100,000 mark of our $250,000 goal. We have also learned that many of these new plants have also received direct support from many of our Fellowship churches and friends. Thank you for giving to this noble cause…the planting of new churches. This must remain the DNA of our movement in the years ahead. I commend our Regional leaders and many pastors who have been “infected by the virus”. I thought I’d give you a brief update on a couple of these new Project “Kick Start” church plants: ![]() La Ceja, Colombia Carlos and Cristina, of Llano Grande (Baptist) Church are “mothering” the new work, along with a couple who will be part of the church plant in La Ceja. This town and region take in about 100,000 people and has been historically a very strong Catholic centre. Very few evangelical churches exist and all are not doctrinally solid. Pastor Carlos mentors the church planting couple,Cesar and Yuly, who presently serve as his youth pastor. About 40 people who attend the mother church live in or close to La Ceja. Currently, a small group is meeting in La Ceja in preparation for the church being planted. Project funds will go towards the home and salary (over three years) of our church planter. Our Fellowship has helped support several of our Colombian church plants in the past. After three years these plants have generally become self-sustaining. Please pray about giving to Project 2012 and help launch this church plant in La Ceja, Colombia. I visited the town in February 2012 and have a brief (less than 2 minutes) video below (click image to view on the internet). ![]() St. Léonard, Quebec Pastor René and Sharon Frey know about church planting. After pastoring our Rosemont Church for 34 years, and planting three daughter churches, they are leaving Rosemont to plant a church in St. Léonard, a borough in Montreal, with 75,000, many of whom are of Italian descent. There are very few evangelical churches in this area. René rejoices that a church planter in training, Benoît Constant(a Master of Divinity student), will begin with Pastor René in September 2013. Currently, three cell groups are meeting in St. Léonard and gather together once a month. René and Benoît hope to set up a mutli-ethnic congregation similar to our Rosemont Church. Please pray about giving to Project 2012—Kick Start 2 and support this new church plant in Montreal, QC. Our Fellowship 48 National Convention is Coming! You can register on-line today, or give us a call or mail in your registration. Our theme is, “Vital Signs”. We’ll gather to investigate the health of our innerspiritual lives and be challenged by the Scazzero’s (teaching in a seminar format) and a lineup of excellent workshops. Ending our convention with a banquetand Christian humorist, Phil Callaway. I also plan to unveil our “Fellowship International Strategic Direction”…document come hear how we can all partner together. Have a blessed week. Steve Jones

![]() Tonight's Indepth Session on the Honduras Mission Trip at FBC at 7pm. Though Doug and Gene spoke this past Sunday on the trip itself-there is much to be discussed as a church family. God has put the pieces into place for us to partner with Vida y Libertad, the children's home in Honduras; this offers us many opportunities to invest in the lives of these children. The question is, how does God want to use each one of us and the only way to find out is to be a part of the discussion. This is not just for those who might be thinking of going on a missions trip, it's for all of us who call FBC home. We all have a part to play in some way, whether its sponsoring a wee one, writing letters, praying, aiding financially, and the list goes on. We need to be creative and think outside the box so we need everyone's input! God's heart is for the fatherless, the lonely, the poor, the suffering- and so must ours be. So please be there tonight, and let's discover together what God has in mind for FBC and Vida y Libertad, on mission together for Jesus. ![]() Dear Pastors, Missionaries, Chaplains and Friends, Steve here…I just got back from our annual Missions Institute. Each July we gather all our Fellowship International missionaries who are on home assignment together for five days of refreshment, focusing, revisioning, discussion related to best practices, and fun! We met at Muskoka Bible Centre near Huntsville, ON this year and had a great time of fellowship. This was my second Missions Institute in my new role as President. Both occasions have been a delight as I see the significant caliber of godly people we have serving our 500 plus churches overseas. We directly care for 65 missionariesand the families serving in 17 countries. However, I know we have many more “Fellowship folks” serving in dozens of other faith-mission agencies. It has been a joy for me to hear from some of you as you respond to my Monday emails. It is always great to hear what God is doing around the world. Thanks for contacting me. At or recent Missions Institute we heard from many of our missions personnel. We worshipped together, discussed our future Fellowship International Vision Strategic plan, were challenged in workshops, played silly games, laughed together and prayed for one another. We also introduced our newest Fellowship International appointees to the Fellowship family at MBC. I would like to introduce your newest Fellowship missionaries who are seeking support from churches and donors to get to the field as soon as possible. Please start praying for them and begin introducing them to your church family and friends. Karim and Rita Anayssi (Willowdale Baptist, Toronto) are going to Lebanon to serve as executive Director of Cedar Home Orphanage for girls. They are originally from Lebanonand know the language/culture. Their two girls, Neomi and Naya, will enjoy 14 other sisters. Karim envisions a home for over 50 girls along with other spiritual and humanitarian projects. A great place for a future short term missions trip for your church. Luc and Denise Tétreault (Orleans, ON) are going to Pakistan where Luc will be theDirector of the Shikarpur Christian Hospital. They are the first missionaries going out supported under the umbrella of FAIR, our Fellowship humanitarian and relief work. Luc has worked for 30 years in the healthcare sector in Ottawa in forensic medicine (aka “CSI”) and executive administration. We need them at Shikarpur… like yesterday! Raj and Kim Vannadil (Parkland Baptist, Surrey, BC) are going to southern India to be involved in leadership development through our Fellowship’s LeadersFor Ministry. Raj knows the language and both are familiar with the culture. We already have severalLeadersFor co-horts meeting in northern India, served by Fellowship International missionaries, Jack and Lorraine Chen. Raj and Kim will establish other LeadersFor co-horts in the south. We are looking for Fellowship pastors who want to come to India for very brief assignments to train pastors. Ken and Cathy Yinger (Knollwood Baptist, London ON) are going to a region in Spain called “Extrema-Dura” or “Extremely Hard”. There is virtually no gospel witness in this region of Spain. The Yingers spent 17 years in Chile, know the language and are familiar with the culture. God has placed a vision to plant churches throughout this spiritually-needy land. As Ken told me: "They are looking for Lydias, Apollos and Philippian jailers to join them”. I’ll explain what that means in a future Monday email. Our newest Fellowship International missionary appointee is Jenny Casselman (North Park Community Church, London, ON) who is finishing up theological studies and then going to Pakistan to be involved in discipleshipministry especially among the women who frequent the Shikarpur Christian Hospital. Pray for Jenny as she steps out in faith. I’ve been a Fellowship pastor for almost three decades. It has been quite a few years since we have had this many newly appointed missionaries, obeying the Lord’s call for international service. We are excited and I trust this excites you too. My hope and prayer is that I have only whetted your appetite to find out more. We are looking for prayer and financial support partners for these fine brothers and sisters in Christ. We are looking for Fellowship churcheswho desire to collaborate with these missionaries on the field to help facilitate the God-given dreams or our churches and supporters. If interested, pray about it, and contact me soon! Have a blessed week. Steve Jones Dear Pastors, Missionaries, Chaplains and Friends, Steve here…I have a favour to ask of you. We are busy preparing for our upcoming Fellowship 48 National Convention and we have a great line-up of workshops. One workshop will be a discussion of current theological issues being addressed by our local churches. I have a panel of theological professors lined up to address your concerns. However, I want to address your primary theological concerns and so I would greatly appreciate a quick and immediate reply to this email with your suggestions (send responses directly to me at: "click this" ) What do you see as the top 3-5 theological concerns being addressed in our churches today or in the near future? Thanks. Our Fellowship 48 National Convention will soon be upon us. I invite you and your spouse to this “couples” convention in beautiful Niagara Falls on November 5-7, 2012 at the Sheraton on the Falls hotel. You can register on-line or give us a call today. Check for further details in the attachment below. Have a blessed week, Steve Jones ![]()
Hi all,
We said our goodbyes to the Children’s Home today. Gabriel and Hacindo began varnishing the interior ceiling under the roof section we completed. I’m glad we aren’t doing it - they are using the old type of varnish that went out of use at home years ago - very heavy fumes. There is a lot of this going on here - things are used that are outlawed at home. We are glad to be heading home, yet our hearts are heavy for this country. People have to live behind gates and barbed wire everywhere, including their homes. Many businesses have bars in front like a bank with people paying for stuff through the bars. Banks and many stores have armed guards at the doors. I even saw an armed guard on a coke truck today. It can be depressing. But I find the people generally friendly, they respond when we say hello - ola. Some are wary of strangers and we must stick out like a sore thumb. The people are descendents of the Maya, and they produce plenty of nice artwork, pottery, woodwork etc. It is an absolutely beautiful country. The students all wear uniforms and we see them everywhere. There are scripture verses and gospel sayings on the buses, taxis. Sometimes a taxi driver will have a Bible on his lap. John said it’s hard to tell real faith from religion and superstition sometimes. I am tired so am just rambling on. It has been hot this week and the sun is strong. Sunny every day! Please pray for Ally – I’m sure she will be lonesome when we go. Pray that the Lord will be very real to her and she will find strength and comfort in His presence and protection. Well, that will be all the emails from Honduras for us. .Tomorrow night we are in San Pedro and home Friday night. Who will go next? See you soon! Love Doug |
