2026 Honduras Team Blog

Day 10 (Jan 29)

I tried to get out of writing an update through illness, even to the extreme lengths of an IV bag but alas, here I am writing one.

The morning seemed to start a little slower than most others. It’s departure day. Everyone was bustling about making sure their packs were filled appropriately, purchased Honduran coffee divided between a handful of checked bags we had left and squeezing breakfast in before departing with Otto, Rick and Ena to the airport.

The ride down through the mountains was beautiful. Lots of twists and turns, beautiful chaotic Honduran driving with vast varieties of vehicles, flying by occasionally honking their horns to communicate and not a safety inspection to be seen.

After heartfelt goodbyes, we lounged around our flight gate for an hour or so before boarding our first flight of the day to Houston. The flight was as expected, no surprises. We had limited time at our connection, however everything went smooth through baggage, security, and getting to our gate.

We were placed on a newer swanky airplane this time with some legend that has flown over 1,000,000 miles. The flight went fine with some good night views of the lights of some big cities on the East Coast. I’m thankful for noise cancelling headphones as there was a screaming child in our vicinity for a small portion of the flight. The landing was sketchiest one yet but we made it in one piece.

After navigating the free transit while partially shocked by the temperatures we were experiencing, we arrived in a overpacked van safe at our destination. Time for some rest before the final leg.
