On September 19, 2017 a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit about 150 kilometers outside Mexico City. The quake caused destruction throughout the region which has a population of over 20 million people. Dozens of buildings collapsed, crushing cars, knocking out power, breaking gas lines resulting in fires across the city, and leaving over 200 hundred dead and many still missing. Rescue workers and ordinary citizens are working to find and free survivors still trapped in collapsed buildings, including dozens of children and staff buried under the rubble of a flattened elementary school wing.
Because many buildings have either collapsed or are structurally unsound, people have been left without shelter and have been forced to sleep on the streets. Access to food and water is limited and power is still out for most of the city.
FAIR is partnering with Operation Mobilization in providing relief and assistance to those impacted by this event. Team members are on the ground working to find the best ways to help alleviate the suffering being experienced. Initial funds will be used to provide food, water, and shelter; long term involvement will include rebuilding efforts. The priority will be to use funds raised to enable the local church as they extend the love of Christ within their community.
How Can You Respond?

Please be in prayer for the people of Mexico as they struggle to come to terms with the devastation of this earthquake. Pray that the Lord will provide strength and courage to believers living in the region and that they would seize every opportunity to share Christ with those that cross their path. Pray that as the love of Christ is demonstrated through the distribution of relief supplies, that lives would be impacted for eternity.
Sincerely in Christ,
